(Note: As of October ‘06, all comments are closed. The site is on hiatus while a new site its planned. Updates will appear on the front page of this site.)
1) Comments are moderated. Sometimes the spam filters may flag your comment for moderation, causing a delay between submitting it and its being posted. Please be patient. Comments not adhering to the terms of this policy may not appear. By default, your first comment must be manually approved, so may take a while to appear.
2) Civil comments or questions, clarifications, debate, and discussion are welcome.
3) Please keep comments at least somewhat relevant to to the post to which you respond.
4) I reserve the right to remove anyone’s comments at any time, for any reason. That said, under normal circumstances I will not remove or alter any comment which adheres to this policy. Most commonly, posts containing irrelevant or commercial information (spam), or links to such information will be deleted. In addition, ad hominem comments, flames, profanity or otherwise uncivil comments are subject to deletion.
5) Comments will typically close after two months, sometimes earlier.
6) Quick responses to comments not requiring a full post may sometimes be placed in-line with the comment.
7) Please use your real name. I’m open about who I am and expect the same courtesy from those who post here. If you know I know you, and want to use only your first name (or something else I’d recognize), that’s fine. But if you have any doubt I know you, I ask that for your first comment you either use your full name (if it’s part of your email address, that’s fine) or follow your comment with a private message (see the link at the top of the home page) to let me know who you are so I can be so informed when I post the comment. If your name links to your own site, that will probably serve as sufficient identification as well. Anonymous posts (using anonymous email addresses) with no follow-up letting me know who you are will typically not appear as comments on the site. I may, however, post them in articles for others to discuss. Let’s keep this an open community, not one in which people hide behind “nicks” and aliases.
Occasionally a comment sent from a computer using an “open or insecure proxy,” (not the typical home computer, but perhaps descriptive of some workplace computers, and typical of spammers’ computers) will be completely disallowed by the anti-spam software. If you’ve left a comment which has not appeared for 24 hours, though you believe it meets the terms of this comment policy, let me know and I’ll look into this possibility to retrieve your comment. After that, simply switch to a “normal” connection for your posting.
